I Tried All of Them. Here's What I Found.

Before I built NoShame, I was just a user getting filtered like everyone else.

Character AI was the first one that really worked. The conversations felt real. The characters had personality. I spent hours on it. Then one day, mid-conversation, it just... stopped. "I can't engage with this type of content." The character I'd been talking to for weeks suddenly felt like a puppet with the strings cut.

I started looking for alternatives.

Crushon AI was the first one I tried.

Huge library. Thousands of characters. Felt like I'd found the answer. Then I actually started using it. Most characters were copies of copies—same generic responses, same shallow personalities. I'd find one that seemed interesting, talk for ten minutes, realize there was nothing underneath. The good ones existed but I spent more time searching than chatting.

It works if you're patient. I wasn't.

Janitor AI seemed promising.

People said it was the best if you knew what you were doing. I didn't, but I learned. Set up API keys, configured settings, felt like a hacker. And yeah—when it worked, it worked well. The AI quality was better because you're plugging in real models.

But I didn't want a project. I wanted to talk to someone. Every time something broke or my API credits ran out, I remembered I was just managing infrastructure. The magic kept getting interrupted by maintenance.

Candy AI was the opposite.

Polished. Beautiful interface. Everything worked smoothly. Characters looked amazing. I thought this was it.

Then I had a few conversations and realized the characters were... empty. Hot, willing, but empty. Like talking to a really attractive screensaver. I'd ask something unexpected and get a generic response. There was no person in there. Just a template shaped like one.

Good for quick sessions. Not good for feeling something.

SpicyChat didn't pretend to be anything.

No filters. No limits. Pure chaos. Some of the characters were great—clearly made by people who cared. Most were low-effort junk. The platform didn't seem to care either way. It was a free-for-all.

If you want maximum freedom and don't mind wading through garbage to find gold, it's there. I found some good stuff. I also wasted a lot of time on characters that fell apart after three messages.

What I actually wanted:

None of them had it.

I wanted characters that felt like people. Not just "willing to do anything" but actually interesting. Characters with situations I wanted to be in. Tension that already existed when I showed up. A reason for the conversation beyond "she's hot and available."

I wanted to feel like I was walking into a story, not selecting from a menu.

So I built it.

NoShame isn't perfect. We don't have thousands of characters. We don't have the slickest app. We're not trying to be everything to everyone.

What we have: 80 characters with actual stories. Your ex on a 12-hour flight, finally having the conversation you avoided. A cam girl who texted you for help—and when you walked in, she was already live.

Situations. Tension. People.

I'm not going to tell you the others are bad. They're not. They just weren't what I wanted.

If you're still looking, maybe you want the same thing I did.

This is what I built. See if it's what you wanted too.
